Abstract:

From nearly 4 millions Z decays recorded in the ALEPH detector, measurements of
the production of excited charmed states are performed.  The known narrow L=1
states are searched for in charm hadronization and in b semileptonic decays
separately.  In addition, in the case of b semileptonic decays, a topological
analysis shows evidence for production of both narrow and wide states.
