For more than a decade resonant driving terms (RDTs) have been proving to be powerful beam-based observables for the characterization and correction of magnetic lattices in circular accelerators, from measurement and correction of linear optics (beta-beating) and betatron coupling, to calibration of non-linear magnets and detection of non-linear errors along the ring. This talk will introduce the RDT formalism, the different way to measure them, and their application in several synchrotrons and colliders. Limits in their applicability and accuracy will be also discussed.
