Mots clefs : chambres à fission, cible de spallation, source de neutrons, transmutation ******************************** Title: Development and modelling of fission chambers designed for high neutron fluxes, applications at the HFR reactor (ILL) and the MEGAPIE target (PSI) Summary: The international project MEGAPIE (MEGAwatt PIlot Experiment) at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) aims to build and operate the first 1 MW liquid Lead-Bismuth spallation target. In the framework of this collaboration, the mission in which fits this thesis relates to the characterization of the neutron flux and the actinide incineration potential of the target. This mission required the development of innovating fission chambers, installed inside the central rod of MEGAPIE target and designed to stand its severe irradiation conditions (high neutron fluxes, electromagnetic pollution, high temperatures frequently varying) during 9 months. The optimization and the implementation of these detectors required important theoretical and technological developments. Their experimental validation has been carried out at the High-Flux Reactor (HFR) of the Laue-Langevin Institut (ILL). Irradiation of the MEGAPIE target started on August 14, 2006. The data gathered will offer integral constraints for the neutron generation and transport codes. It will provide important information on the potentialities of the liquid spallation targets for the intense production of neutrons and the transmutation of minor actinides. Key words: fission chambers, spallation target, neutron source, transmutation
