The trainee will generate synthetic data to study the impact of a contaminating effect on the transmission/emission spectra of exoplanetary atmospheres. The analysis can be performed with existing programs, but the trainee is free to develop its own routines.
The upcoming JWST and ARIEL space missions will enable spectroscopic observation of the atmospheres of transiting exoplanets with a precision down to 10 parts per million.
The trainee will study the impact of a contaminating effect at their choice on the transmission/emission spectra of the exoplanetary atmospheres as a function of the star-planet system parameters.
Possible effects to be investigated include stellar magnetic activity, planetary emission, tidal deformations, rotational effects of the planet or star, the presence of moons and/or rings, and the impact of sampling and integration time of the detector.
The trainee will generate synthetic data and analyze them using pre-existing software. The trainee could also develop methods to identify and correct these effects in the data.
The results of this study will lead to the creation of a new subpackage to add to the ExoTETHyS package, a reference software for JWST and ARIEL data analysis.
