History and main milestones
- proposed in 1983
- approved in 1984
- 12 may 1992 : first protons-antiprotons collisions registered
- 1992-1996 : Run I: first data taking phase (with the transition radiation detector) integrated luminosity125 pb-1
- 1995 : top quark discovery (in pair production via strong interactions)
- march 2001 : Run 2 : data taking resumes with proton anti-proton collisions at 1.96 TeV after a shutdown during which both the collider and the D0 detector have been significantly upgraded
- since 2001: realisation of an optical interconnection module (FIC) used by the level 2 trigger system
- end 2001: D0 collaboration approval of the level 1 calorimeter trigger upgrade project
- spring 2002 : end of the commissioning of the new D0 detecteur D0
- summer 2002 : first physics results from Run 2 a data
- october 2003 : intégration test of a "ADF" prototype card at Fermilab
- 2004-2005 : knowlegde transfert DAPNIA -> Michigan State University (MSU) for the level 1 calorimeter trigger upgrade: after the prototype phase under the responsability of DAPNIA, MSU ensures of the production, installation and the commissioning of the future system
- march 2006 : end of Run 2 a integrated luminosity 1.5 fb-1
- march 2006 - may 2006 : installation of layer 0 and triggers upgrades
- august 2006 : Run 2b starts
- 2006 : observation of the Bs oscillation
- 2007 : observation of the electroweak production of the top quark top i.e. single top production
- spring 2007 : Tevatron has delivered 3 fb-1 to D0
- 2007 : observation of the XI_b baryon
- august 2007 : the publication of the observation of the XI_b baryon corresponds to the 200th D0 publication
Status and perspectives
- the accumulated statistics is increased by a factor of about 2 each year.
- interruption of the data taking in 2006 with D0 upgrades: installation of the layer 0 for the Silicon tracking detector (vertex detector), installation of upgraded and new trigger system (calorimeter trigger system)
- data taking till 2009, expected integrated luminosity between 4 and 8 fb-1
Technical and scientifical achievements:
- more than 100 publications from physics analysis of the Run 1 data
- excellent understanding of the upgraded D0 detector
- expect more publications from physics analysis of the Run 2 data
- numerous contributions and presentations of the DAPNIA/SPP/D0 group members at international conferences
- integration test of one "ADF" prototype card and associated cards at the end of 2003. Several presentations at international conferences on the calorimeter trigger system upgrade project.
