Neutron Resonance Analysis School 2011

Scope

The second Neutron Resonance Analysis School will be hosted at the EC-JRC-IRMM in Geel, Belgium from November 14 to November 18, 2011.

Neutron-induced nuclear reactions are important in a wide range of applications ranging from stellar nucleosynthesis, symmetry breaking effects in compound nuclei, the investigation of nuclear level densities, to applications of nuclear technology, including the transmutation of nuclear waste, accelerator driven systems and nuclear fuel cycle investigations. Accurate measurements and a careful analysis of measured nuclear data are the crucial basis for evaluated nuclear data libraries, which in their turn form the basis for technological applications.

This school is intended to provide a practical introduction to the analysis of measured neutron-induced resonance reaction data and to the processing of experimental and evaluated data. Lectures and hands-on computer exercises will be alternated. Topics include neutron-induced reactions, R-matrix theory, neutron time-of-flight measurements, uncertainty and covariance assessment, data formats (ENDF, EXFOR) and related topics.

The school is aimed at PhD students, post-docs and researchers working in the field related to neutron time-of-flight measurements and neutron resonance analysis. Since the capacity of receiving participants is limited, priority will be given to applications of PhD students and post-docs.

Application

If you would like to participate in the school, please fill in the application form before June 15, 2011. You will be notified whether you are selected for participation to the school. The registration fee is 200 EUR and includes access to the lectures and lunches. A special all-in fee of 700 EUR can be offered to a limited number of persons. The all-in fee includes registration, accommodation, meals and daily transport between the hotel and the IRMM.

In addition there is a possibility for limited financial support. Applicants for financial support should submit a CV and a short letter of motivation.
