Irfu is developing jointly with the company 3D PLUS within the framework of the joint laboratory ALB3DO a prototype of a coded mask gamma-ray spectro-imager. This miniature spectro-imager allows the realization of spectro-images for the nuclear field from 2 keV to 1 MeV using finely pixelated CdTe semiconductor detectors resulting from research and development work for space astronomy and high energy solar observation.
Objectives
The objective of the internship is to contribute to the implementation of a miniature gamma camera prototype. The integration phase will consist in optimizing the assembly procedures of such a measuring device and then determine its performance in the laboratory under radiation. In a second step, the prototype will be evaluated under realistic experimental conditions in installations representative of the targeted applications for the control and measurement of ionizing radiation in nuclear facilities.
The aim of the training course is as much based on the assembly of a new device as on the evaluation of its spectral performances on the one hand and in imaging performance on the other hand.
Working environment
The internship will take place in the ALB3DO Laboratory, a joint laboratory of the Institute for Research on the Fundamental Laws of the Universe (IRFU) which includes the Department of Astrophysics and the Department of Electronics, Detectors and Computing for Physics and 3D PLUS.
