We present and discuss studies on microscopic calculations for proton elastic scattering at beam energies of up to about 1 GeV. The work is based on momentum-space folding model of the optical potential, with nucleon-nucleon (NN) eective interactions based on realistic bare NN potentials. These potentials account for NN amplitudes available at the Data Analysis Center of the Institute for Nuclear Studies, George Washington University. In particular, inelasticities above pion-production threshold are accounted for with the addition of energy-dependent contributions which enable to fully account for the empirical amplitudes. An assesment of the model is presented, as well as its ability to extract information on ground state densities from scattering measurements.
