Statistical methods play an important role in HEP measurements, in particular in the complex measurements performed at LHC. The presentation will provide a introduction to some of the methods currently used in searches for new physics and SM measurements, focusing in particular on techniques based on the profile likelihood ratio. Some directions for the future evolution of these techniques will also be shown.
