egin{abstract} This presentation summarizes the measurements performed on the
ETL 9125FLB17 photomultiplier tubes, used in the particle identification device
of the high energy physics BaBar experiment. In particular, we show how the
performance of the phototubes is degraded by either a magnetic field or helium
gas. \end{abstract}
