The rare decays B0s -> µ+µ- and B0 -> µ+µ- are highly suppressed in the Standard Model and are sensitive to possible contributions from as-yet undiscovered particles. Due to their unique sensitivity, experimental searches for these modes have been pursued for 30 years. A major step in this long standing history was achieved in 2012 by the LHCb Collaboration with the first evidence of the B0s -> µ+µ- decay. We present the latest update of the results from LHCb in the search for these decays.
