CUPID-Mo is an experiment searching for neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay in 100Mo, consisting of a 4.2 kg array of 20 isotopically enriched Li2MoO2 scintillating crystals operated as cryogenic calorimeters. The crystals are coupled to Ge wafers acting as light detectors, which allow a full α background suppression thanks to the different scintillation light yield of α and β/γ particles.
CUPID-Mo is a demonstrator for the next-generation ton-scale experiment CUPID (CUORE Upgrade with Particle IDentification), currently in an advanced design stage, and has been operating stably at the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (France) since March 2019. Despite a limited exposure of 2.17 kg·yr, CUPID-Mo has set the world-leading limit on 100Mo 0νββ decay half-life, T1/2 > 1.5 · 1024 yr at 90% C.I.
In this seminar, I will discuss the CUPID-Mo results, and illustrate the path towards the realization of CUPID.
