Travelling in and around Paris
Paris takes advantage of a dense subway (called here
Métro) network operated by the RATP, assisted by
an even more dense bus network. Regional express trains (RER) can be used
as metros inside Paris with the same tickets (see below). Metros run from
around 5:30 to 1:00, busses run from 7:00 to 20:30, although some lines run up
to 0:30. Night busses (Noctambus) run from 1:00 to 5:00 on
special lines. On week-end only a part of the normal bus lines are running.
Fares:
- Ticket t: With one ticket you can do a trip with RER (inside
Paris only) and metro (whole network), even with connections. You can also do
a trip on bus (except Noctambus, airport busses and some special
busses) without connection. One ticket t costs 1.30 €, a book of 10
tickets t costs 10 €. If you plan to use RER outside Paris
you need to buy special tickets with price depending of the destination.
- 1 day ticket (Mobilis): Valid during one day (5:30 to 1:00) on all
RER, metro and bus networks (except airport connections) in selected
zones. The parisian region is separated into 8 zones drawing circles around Paris (which covers the zone
1). 1 day ticket for 2 zones (minimum coverage) costs 5.20 €.
- Tourist ticket (Paris Visite): Valid during 1, 2, 3 or 5 days on all
networks (including Noctambus and airport connections) in selected zones. Prices for zones 1 to 3
(minimum coverage) are 8.35 € for 1 day, 13.70 € for 2 days, 18.25
€ for 3 days, and 26.65 € for 5 days.
- 1 week ticket (Carte Orange): Valid from monday (sold until
wednesday) to sunday on all networks except Orlyval in selected zones. Price for zones 1-2 (minimum
coverage) is 14.50 €. Warning: an identity photo is needed to establish
the card required with this ticket. This card is free and established directly
when you buy this ticket for the first time (ask the employee for one), you
must write on the week ticket the number of your card.
