COAST COmputational ASTrophysics

Numerical Simulations in Astrophysics

Web site of the COAST project

Presentation

The COAST project is a DAPNIA program of high performances computing in astrophysics. It includes developments of codes, numerical methods, visualization tools, distributed databases, optimization and parallelization methods.
The COAST team meets physicists from the ‘Simulations Numériques’ laboratory of the DAPNIA/SAp (Service d’Astrophysique) and engineers from the LILAS (laboratoire d’ingénierie logiciel pour les applications scientifiques) of the DAPNIA/SEDI. COAST is involved in national (Horizon, Magnet, Sinerghy, Odalisc) or international (Stars) collaborations.
These collaborations allow the COAST members to share expertise in different domains of astrophysics, geophysics or plasma physics with physicists or engineers coming from other laboratories and scientific communities.
Resources can also be put together, either for hardware or for software: tools are developed and used in common especially for data handling, databases and visualization.
Collaborations are very important for the COAST members by giving them the opportunities of fruitful cross exchanges with the other labs and for allowing to show their research job outside the Saclay lab, in other labs in France or abroad and also on the Web.
