NUAGES is a research group of the Star-formation and Interstellar Medium lab at CEA Saclay. The acronym NUAGES stands for Nearby Universe Agents of Galaxy Evolution Studies. The group focuses on the study of (nearby) galaxies with interest in topics related to the interstellar dust and gas, heating and cooling processes, ISM composition and structure, low-metallicity conditions, chemical evolution of galaxies. Our projects exploit multi-wavelength observations - with an accent on IR-mm facilities such as Spitzer, AKARI, Herschel, SOFIA, IRAM, APEX, ALMA - as well as spectral synthesis models of the dust and gas.
We have expertise in dust physics and dust spectral energy distribution modeling with our in-house state-of-the-art hierarchical bayesian dust model HERBIE (developped by F. Galliano) which is applied on spatially-resolved scales and globally in galaxies.
We have expertise in the gas physics and radiative transfert modeling using, in particular, the photoionization and photodissociation region codes Cloudy and Meudon PDR. We have built grids of models to interpret gas emission on spatially-resolved as well as global scales.
Besides exploiting the rich archives of past telescopes, we are proactive in acquiring, for the Magellanic Clouds and nearby galaxies, far-IR observations with the instruments GREAT and FIFI-LS onboard the SOFIA observatory and submillimeter observations with ground-based observatories such as ALMA or IRAM. We are also preparing for the JWST.
Dustpedia is a European project that aims to provide multi-wavelength photometry of all extended nearby galaxies observed with Herschel, and tools to model and interpret their dust properties. It is a FP7 collaboration between CEA, IAS, Athens, Cardiff, Ghent.

The Dwarf Galaxy Survey (DGS) is a Herschel key program led by Suzanne Madden that observed 50 nearby low-metallicity galaxies in photometry and spectroscopy to study the properties of their star-forming interstellar medium.

Mega-SAGE in an international collaboration led by Margaret Meixner, based on Spitzer programs follow-up with Herschel. Its aim is to study the properties of young and evolved stars and of the ISM in the Large and Samll Magellanic Clouds.
