Postdoctoral position in dark matter physics at IRFU/ CEA Saclay

The IRFU CEA-Saclay opens a post-doctoral position in the field of direct dark matter search, within the SPP Edelweiss-Eureca team.

The SPP is involved in the Edelweiss II experiment which aims for direct detection of dark matter using double measurement heat and ionisation Germanium cryogenic detectors. This experiment, installed in the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM France) has obtained recently new results, among the best in the field. This has been reached thanks to a new technology which allows to reject the dominant background induced by surface interactions originating from Radon. A new phase involving an increase of sensitive mass by a factor 20 is being started. The Edelweiss Saclay team is also involved in the next generation large scale project Eureca aiming at operating 1 ton of cryogenic detectors in the projected extension ULISSE of the LSM.

The candidate will take part in some specific efforts of our group oriented towards radon and daughter measurements and techniques to reduce their concentrations at the surface of materials - including Germanium -, in water and in the air, down to the concentrations needed for Eureca type of experiments. The candidate will also have opportunities to contribute to studies of the present Edelweiss background by analysis of data acquired at LSM. The candidates should have preferentially a Ph.D. in experimental particle or nuclear physics. Candidates having previous experience in dark matter direct detection or low radioactive background studies are encouraged to apply.

The position is for a duration of two years starting as soon as possible.

Applications including a CV (resume), letter of interest and two letters of reference should be sent to: Gilles Gerbier gilles.gerbier@cea.fr
