DIS activities


DIS forms a team of about 100 permanent employees, engineers or technicians spread almost evenly, to which are added about 10% of temporary contracts linked to temporary increases in activity.  The DIS covers two main components of trades:

mechanical engineering;

The age pyramid of the service is presented in a non-standard way with the particularity of posting population increases between 30 and 35 years and beyond 45 years which can be explained by :

for 30-35 year olds, higher renewals for mechanical designers' profiles ;
for people over 50, profiles from the "field" who have acquired their specific skills and know-how by capitalising on their contributions to experience.


The DIS is organized into 5 business oriented laboratories; 2 laboratories to ensure the mechanical engineering of the projects and 3 laboratories to cover the instrumentation, electrical engineering and control aspects.

Mechanical engineering activities are organized around the LCAP and the LRI, which, in total, are composed of 30 permanent staff including 13 technicians/projectors; the mechanical engineering laboratories welcome each year 3 to 4 university trainees and 3 sandwich courses (BTS level or engineer). For the Institute's projects, mechanical design and mechanical studies are carried out centrally within the LCAP. Based on the technical definition carried out within the design office (mechanical definition plans, 3D models, calculation notes, possibly models), the "Industrial Relations" laboratory provides project management assistance by drawing up the consultation file including the specifications and specifying the technical requirements, quality assurance rules, applicable standards, codes and standards.

The instrumentation activities are organized around 3 laboratories, LDISC, LEI and LEIGE, which bring together 34 engineers and 20 permanent technicians, plus temporary contracts and interns. These laboratories possess skills based on a capitalisation of know-how resulting from numerous feedback experiences, in particular on large instruments. LEI has the capacity to define and implement complex electronic architectures, and to carry out the associated developments. LDISC's ability to support architecture studies, development and deployment of complete control and supervision systems by mixing real-time and embedded industrial computing coupled with directly integrated PLC processes. The LEIGE, linking the laboratories, is responsible for all electrical engineering and measurement activities.



The DIS trades cover the fields of mechanical engineering, measurement, instrumental electronics, industrial computing, automation, electrical engineering and electrical engineering with the specificity of mastering accelerator environments, physics experience and space platforms.
