The principle of particles accelerators consists into the transfer of energy from the electricity power grid to a particle beam. The aim of the research and development on accelerators finally consists into the optimization of this transfer. The work during my defense will concentrate on the following points:

  • How to develop superconducting cavities design, fabrication and preparation to optimize the RF power transfer from the coupler to the accelerating field. I will especially detail two examples: the ESS high beta elliptical cavity and the DONES high beta Half Wave Resonator.
  • How to optimize the magnetic environment of cavities to guarantee cavity performances. I will focus on magnetic shielding development, magnetic hygiene and magnetic sensors.
  • How to optimize RF power sources efficiency, from the output power improvement in Traveling Wave Tubes to efficiency optimization in klystrons.
