With its new Spiral2 particle accelerator, inaugurated on Thursday 3 November in the presence of the President of the Republic, François Hollande, the Ganil (CNRS/CEA) will produce particle beams of unequalled intensity, essential to push back the limits of knowledge. It thus doubles its experimental potential in nuclear physics, in particular for research on the atomic nucleus and on the mechanisms of nuclear reactions, such as those taking place within stars. The first experiments should take place there in mid-2017.
