The Scientific Programme Committee of the European Space Agency (ESA) has selected the mission PLAnetary Transits and Oscillation of stars (PLATO), dedicated to the study of the formation and evolution of planetary systems (one star and one or more planets). PLATO, which should be launched in 2024, will detect and characterize thousands of exoplanets of all sizes, including several tens similar to Earth, as well as their host stars. The CNES will provide financial and technical support to the scientific teams of the CNRS, the Observatoire de Paris, the CEA and universities for the development of the instrument and the processing of scientific data.
