Within the framework of an international cooperation, astrophysicists from the CEA, the CNRS and the Universities Bordeaux 1 and Paris-Diderot were able to identify the mechanism of formation of a star fifty to one hundred times larger than the Sun, located 11,000 light years from Earth. Thanks to ALMA surveys, researchers have succeeded in probing the molecular cloud in which this exceptionally large star is being born. These results are published in Astronomy & Astrophysics on July 10.
