Title: CoCaSCOPE approach for multiscale modelling of Nb3Sn Rutherford cables

Speaker: Pierre Manil from CEA

Abstract:

The objective of the CoCaSCOPE approach is to establish a multi-scale numerical methodology in order to provide a better understanding of the behaviour of Rutherford cables used in high-field superconducting magnets. The approach aims on the one hand at generating detailed 3D meshes of the Rutherford cable composite structure, and on the other hand at establishing mechanical behaviour laws of the Nb3Sn superconducting strand constituents.

It provides local study of strain state in the filamentary region of the strands, thanks to the bi-metallic feature of the models. Preliminary comparative analyses have been done, considering the stiffness of the cable impregnation, the cable compaction and the existence of a steel core, in view of a future critical current estimation.
