After introducing axions, axion like particles and hidden photons as well motivated ultralight cold dark matter candidates, we present a new technique to experimentally search for them with mirrors of different types, possibly requiring a large magnetic field. The currently blooming landscape of experiments and new ideas to search for these hypothetical low mass particles will be also briefly reviewed and future opportunities within the Internation Axion Observatory highlighted.
