Students and doctoral students have an important place within Irfu. During the period 2013-2017, 136 theses were defended, and 86 theses are in progress in 2018. The origin of thesis funding is multiple, which reflects the dynamism of the supervisors, but also the quality of the links forged with different academic partners. The large number of PhD students accepted comes from a policy posted at Irfu to promote the training of young researchers and engineers, by allowing them to complete internships at levels equivalent to a bachelor's degree (university and engineering apprentices).

Irfu offers many students the opportunity to come and do internships in its experiments, with more than 500 internships carried out in the various Irfu departments between 2013 and 2017 and 21 alternating internships for one year or more. 

Irfu is also recruiting with, for example, nearly 101 fixed-term contracts that have been able to participate in the various Irfu projects over the 2013-2017 period.
