The D0 experiment was located at the proton-antiproton Tevatron collider at  the Fermilab laboratory (Chicago, USA). There was two data taking periods: Run I from 1992 to 1996 with a center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV, and Run II from 2001 to 2011 with a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Before the advent of the LHC, the Tevatron was the most energetic collider in the world and the only collider where the top quark as well as possibly a Higgs boson could be produced.

D0 is made of several sub-detectors allowing to address a wide spectrum of physics subjects within the Standard Model such as top quark production and properties measurements, QCD, W and Z gauge bosons studies, and b-quark physics. The D0 experiment also allowed to search for the Higgs boson as well as new physics beyond the Standard Model such as supersymmetry and extra-dimensions.

D0 is a large international collaboration: around 400 physicists are signing the latest D0 publications. Irfu/SPP was one of the first foreign institute that join the collaboration in the middle of the 80's.



Irfu contributions

  • Build of a transition radiation detector used from 1992 to 1996;
  • Build of an optical connecting device (FIC) used by the trigger system since 2001 ;
  • Studies of improvements to the calorimeter trigger system at Level 1 for Run IIb (2006-2011)
    • Build of prototype boards "ADF" for the L1 calorimeter trigger system:  digitization from signal arising from the calorimeter and digital processing of the signal using digital filtering;
    • Build of the card distributing synchronization signals;
    • Build of test boards;
    • Development of dedicated softwares
    • mid-2005: commissioning of the triggering system
