DESY is facing the challenge to plan an CW upgrade for the European XFEL. To achieve this, several R&D topics are under investigation, where I will only briefly mention plans regarding large grain material for cavities and will focus on the still not understood nitrogen infusion. The two-fold approach on infusion -cavities and samples- and the development at DESY will be shown, together with further open questions and problems.
